Bunaken National Marine Park
North Sulawesi


Hop on a 40-minute boat ride from mainland Manado and find yourself captivated by the exquisite marine life of the internationally acclaimed Bunaken. The marine park won the British Airways “Tourism for Tomorrow” contest in 2003, beating 70 worldwide entrants competing in terms of responsible tourism, and in 2005 won the top spots on Conde Nast Traveler magazine’s annual "Green List", which names the best ecotourism experiences around the world.

The maritime garden features 2,000 fish species, 58 coral genera, and such endangered animals as whales, sea turtles, and dugongs. Its crystal water allows clear visibility, making it ideal for snorkeling, diving, and photography. Bunaken provides 25 dive sites, among the most popular are Fukui, Lekuan, and Sachiko. If you’re not a big fan of underwater activities, don’t lose heart; we can help you appreciate the oceanic beauty from a glass-floored boat, or enjoy a tranquil by-the-beach vacation at one of the Bunaken island resorts.

Recommended length of tour: 1 day for non-divers, 5-7 days for divers
Diving license: Open Water and above (no license required for snorkeling)





Lembeh Strait

Hold your breath as you’re about to encounter the most bizarre sea inhabitants. From frogfish to sparking electric corals, from scorpion-fish to fingernail-sized seahorses, Lembeh strait features alien-like creatures you won’t find anywhere else on earth. Lembeh can be reached with a 1.5-hour boat ride from Manado, offers 30 diving sites, and is ideal for night dives, wreck hunting, critter hunting, and undersea photography. We recommend a combined tour of Bunaken and Lembeh for you to fully immerse in the wonders and diversity of this area.
